Supriyo Chatterjee is an educator and a practitioner of Optometry since 1990. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Human Physiology from Calcutta University in 1982 and thereafter completed his 4 years PG Diploma in Optometry and 6 months Diploma in Contact Lens Practice from The Indian Optical Institute & Refraction Hospital (Estd.1932) in Calcutta, in 1986. He went to the USA for advanced studies and clinical internship in Behavioral Optometry & Vision Therapy in California under Optometric Extension Program Foundation (OEPF) in 1986. In 1988 he completed another advanced course and clinical training in the State University of New York, State College of Optometry in the areas of Pediatric Optometry, Binocular Vision, Vision Therapy and Behavioral Optometry. Both his studies were covered by Full Scholarships from the USA. He was a Clinical Associate of both OEPF and College of Optometrists in Vision Development.
He was awarded Bausch & Lomb Certificate of Excellence in Contact Lens Practice and Silklens Award for Outstanding Contribution to Optometric Education in Eastern India. He was an Invited Speaker in World Council of Optometry Educators Meet in Atlanta, USA, in 2002, regarding Collaborative Programs in Optometric Education. In 2008, he was selected by ORBIS International Ethiopia, to serve as an Assistant Professor of Optometry, Department of Ophthalmology, College of Medicine & Health Sciences, University of Gondar, Ethiopia for one year. He was also a speaker for Transitions.
He has lectured in various subspecialty of Optometry nationally and internationally. He has one publication The Nucleus, a peer reviewed journal.
Before joining Vasan Institute of Ophthalmology & Research, Bangalore in 2015, he taught Binocular Vision/Contact Lenses/Ocular Disease/Pediatric Optometry in Vidyasagar College of Optometry, All India Institute of Optometrical Sciences and Techno-India Department of Optometry in Calcutta. He also served as Senior Consultant in 2 Specialty Hospitals in West Bengal and had his own private practice.
He is a Founder Member of West Bengal Association for Optometrists, Member of Karnataka Optometry Association and is registered with Optometry Council of India.
His areas of interest are: General & Pediatric Optometry, Infant Vision Development, Non-Strabismic Binocular Dysfunctions, Myopia, Computer Vision Syndrome, Sports Vision, Vision Therapy, Neuro-Optometry and Ocular Pathology & Therapeutics.
He was awarded with Lifetime Achievement Award by Eastern India Optometric Association and Graduate Optometrists Association in 2019.
