M.Sc in Biotechnology 2 Graduate with any of the Life Science Subjects (Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry), B.Sc in Agriculture Sciences with at least 50% marks

TNU’s M.Sc in Biotechnology is the field that involves the use of living organisms and bioprocesses in engineering, technology, medicine and other fields requiring bio products. TNU’s Applied Microbiology is the study of microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, algae, fungi, and some types of parasites, to understand how these organisms live, grow, and interact in/with their environments. These programme will include curriculum designed by academic experts and shall facilitate research and hands-on experiential training in well-equipped laboratories to provide students with real-life work experience. The aim of such basic research is to increase scientific knowledge

Dr. Sarkar has 5 years of teaching experience and an overall research experience of 20 years. He did his PhD in Microbiology and his research area was Molecular Genetics of Pathogenic Bacteria. He has 9 International Publications on his name. He has attended 2 International Conferences.

Dr. Prosun Tribedi, Assistant Professor

Dr. Tribedi has 8 years of teaching experience and an overall research experience of 9 years. He did his PhD in Microbiology and his research area is Microbial Biofilm, Bioremediation and Microbial Ecology. In 2015, he was awarded the Young Scientist Grant from DST, Govt. of India. He has 36 International Publications on his name. He has attended an International Conference.

Mr. Ranojit Kumar Sarker, Teaching Associate

Mr. Sarker has 16 years of teaching experience. He is pursuing his PhD in Bioinformatics with “Bioremediation of plastic material” being his area of research. Earlier, he completed his M.Sc. in Biotechnology. He has 5 International Publications to his name while he has attended 1 International and 4 National Conferences.

Ms. Poulomi Chakraborty, Teaching Assistant

Ms. Chakraborty has an overall 3 years of experience in teaching and research area. She did her M.Sc. in Microbiology. She has 8 International Publications to her name. She has attended 6 National and 2 International Conferences.

RESEARCH & PUBLICATIONS

The Department of Biotechnology is one of the most thriving Departments in The Neotia University. This research-oriented unit has several well equipped research laboratories including an independent and dedicated research laboratory (Microbial Ecology research laboratory) that makes the Department a perfect place for practicing research with worthy objectives. The Department has received several research grants including an externally funded grant that lead to enrich the infrastructure of the Department substantially. The learned faculty members of the Department make sure that the students obtain an all-round knowledge in the context of basic and applied aspects of cutting edge research. They are always helped to develop special skills by individually performing an in-house mini research project as well as visiting various Biotechnology industries. In most cases, the students complete the degree having some publications from reputed international journals as well as a thorough experience in the industrial arena. The Biotechnology Department of The Neotia University offers the students the state-of-the-art facilities and immense scope for practicing quality research for developing a better future.

Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE)
TNU has Membership with Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE). ABLE is a not-for- profit pan-India forum that represents the Indian Biotechnology Sector. ABLE has over 400 members from all across India representing all verticals of the sector like Agribiotech, Bio-pharma, Industrial biotech, Bioinformatics, Investment banks and Venture Capital firms, leading Research and Academic Institutes and Law Firms and Equipment Suppliers.

 

CAREER PROSPECTS

Biotechnology is a product-based industry and not a service industry. Biotechnologist will be working with DNA, tissues, bacteria, virus, and complex proteins. Depending specialization and/or expertise, someone will be working as a medical biotechnologist, pharmaceutical biotechnologist, agricultural biotechnologist, food biotechnologist, environmental biotechnologist or industrial biotechnologist etc.

The Global biotechnology market size was valued at over $330.3 billion in 2015, and is expected more than double to $775.2 billion by 2024, at a compound annual growth rate of 9.9 percent.

The biotechnology segment is the fastest growing segment in India. It is valued about $11 billion currently and it will touch the $ 100 billion mark by 2025 as per the forecast of the Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE). Furthermore, the biotech industry is expected to grow at 30% growth rate every year (according to Make in India website).
