Bachelor Of Optometry (B.OPTOM) 4 12th standard pass with Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Mathematics with at least 55% marks.

Optometry is a study of human eye and matters related to its nature. The program aims at imparting skills and knowledge in the correction of refractive conditions of the eye, prescription of glasses, in designing and fitting contact lenses, aniseikonic lenses, low visions aids, in the diagnosis and orthoptic treatment of oculomotor nerve malfunctions, ocular hygiene, etc.

FACULTY MEMBERS

Mr. Supriyo Chatterjee, HOD Optometry

Mr. Chatterjee has been teaching for thirty-four years now and has an overall industry experience of thirty years. He is the Founder Member West Bengal Association for Optometrists and a Life Member of KOA. He has received various awards such as Lifetime Achievement Award by Graduate Optometry Association, Bausch & Lomb Award, and Silklens Award. He has done D.O.S. & D.C.L.P. (PG Diplomas) and COVT from the State University of New York. Earlier, he had done his B.Sc. from Calcutta University as well. To date, he has a national publication to his name and has attended seven national and two international conferences organized by various forums.

Mr. Santanu Ray, Assistant Professor

Mr. Ray has 6 years of teaching and 3 years of industry experience. He has research experience of 4 years in Community Optometry and Low Vision. He has completed his M.Optom. He is currently associated with a project under The Neotia University which explores the prevalence of uncorrected hypermetropia among The Neotia University students. He has a National Publication to his name. He has been to 5 National and 1 International Conference.

Dr. Haimanti Goswami, Assistant Professor

Dr. Goswami has been teaching for eleven years now. She has research experience of six years in “Thyroid and Male Reproductive Physiology”. She did her Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Physiology. She has 3 National and 2 International Publications to her name. Also, she has attended 7 National
and an International Conference organized by various groups.

Dr. Kalyanashis De, Assistant Professor

Dr. De has been 8 years of teaching and an overall research experience of 9 years in the field of Condensed Matter Physics. He did his Ph.D. in Physics and is currently involved in a project regarding the effect of A-site sophisticated disorder on the Electromagnetic Properties of ‘A-site ordered RBaMn2O6 (R= rare earth)’ perovskite. He has received several rewards and recognition, some of which are Dr. D. S. Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship by UGC, Postdoctoral Fellowship by FCT, Portugal, and Senior Research Fellowship by Indian Association from the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata. He has 10 International Publications in his name. Dr. De has been the PI of a project granted by UGC-DAE in the CRS scheme for 3 years (2017-19).

Dr. Manashi Chakraborty, Assistant Professor

Dr. Chakraborty has 13 years of teaching experience and has an overall research experience of 11 years. Currently, she has been working on projects involving Dependence of Exchange Bias on Interparticle Interaction and Improving multiferroicity with RGO/GO/Graphene-based Nanocomposites.  She did her Ph.D. in Chemistry and her areas of research have been Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry, Coordination Chemistry, and Nanomaterials Synthesis, Characterization, and Magnetic Properties Study. She has a National and 5 International Publications in her name.

Dr. Debobani Biswas, Assistant Professor

Dr. Biswas has been teaching for twenty years and has a collective research experience of eight years. She did her Ph.D. in English Literature and her research area was “African American Drama”. To date, she has had two international and 1 National Publication to her name. Apart from this, she has attended 5 International Conferences.

Dr. Sudeshna Roy, Assistant Professor

Dr. Roy has 8 years of teaching experience and an overall 5 years of research experience. She did her Ph.D. in Applied Psychology and her research area was the Correlates of Dysfunctional Belief related to OCD. She has had 2 National Publications. She has attended 2 National along with 2 International Conferences well.

Dr. Poulomi Chakraborty, Assistant Professor

Dr. Chakraborty has been teaching for more than a year now and has an overall research experience of three years in “Exploration of Natural and Synthetic Molecule for the Inhibition of Microbial Biofilm”. She did her Ph.D. in Biotechnology and has ten international publications to her name, to date. Apart from this, she has attended five national and three international seminars organized by various groups.

Mr. Chandranath Chakraborty, Assistant Professor

Mr. Chakraborty has been teaching for 2 years now. He has industry experience of sixteen years. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Healthcare and Hospital Management.

Mr. Swarnava Biswas, Teaching Associate

Mr. Biswas has industry and research experience of few years in Biomedical Image Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Terahertz Imaging, and Cancer Imaging. He is presently working as a Research Scientist in an Industry Sponsored Project 'An Artificial Intelligence Enabled Multi- Hypothesis based Diagnostic Approach Towards COVID- 19 Detection'. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Medical Physics and Electronics and has completed his M.Sc. earlier. He has won several awards such as the INSPIRE scholarship from DST, Government of India. He has national and 2 international publications to his name.

Dr. Rajashree Kar, Teaching Associate

Dr. Kar has 2 years of teaching and a year of industry experience. She did her Post-Graduation in Physiotherapy with a specialization in Orthopedics. She has attended 6 National Conferences organized by various groups.

Dr. Tridib Chatterjee, Faculty (Part-Time)

Dr. Chatterjee has 4 years of teaching and 16 years of industry experience. He has research experience of 4 years in health-related areas. He did his MPhil in Health & Hospital Management from BITS, Pilani, and MBBS from Kolkata. He has been to 22 National and 2 International Conferences.

Dr. Shahid Mahmood, Faculty (Part-Time)

Mr. Mahmood has 10 years of teaching and industry experience respectively. He has done his DOS and DMS in subjects related to Optometry. He has been awarded the Special Initiative Award for promoting Practice Management of Soft Lenses B&L (USA). Also, he has secured the Bausch & Lomb Award for Excellence for his effort in developing soft contact lens habits. He has attended 5 National Conferences and 1 International Conference.

Dr. Pradip Kumar Porai, Faculty (Part-Time)

Dr. Porai has 14 years of teaching and industry experience of 16 years. He has done his Ph.D. and M.D. in Homeopathy.
