This course is designed to provide professional training to students towards making them professional Counsellors. Counselors are a prerequisite for each educational institution (schools & colleges), hospitals, health, rehabilitation, and social welfare departments of the Central and State Government, Corporate Sectors, training industry, Non-Governmental Organizations, National & State Level Commission for Women & Children. This course is specially designed for professionals who need a basic understanding of the discipline of psychology and counseling skills as a value addition for their respective jobs. Doctors, mental health professionals, teachers, human resource managers, social workers, corporate mentors, to name a few, will benefit by being more effective in their chosen profession. This is designed according to the new National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, 2021 for Behavioural Healthcare workers.

Layout: This post-graduate 12month diploma course in counseling Psychology is for students with a Master’s degree in any subject of Social or Health Sciences (Preferably in Psychology) and with an aggregate of 55 percent marks at a minimum in graduate as well as the post-graduate level of education. The intake will be based on the order of merit and a panel interview. 

The individuals completing this course will be considered eligible and equipped for the post of Counsellors or Counselling Psychologists (in the case of Masters in Psychology).


12month diploma course with a Semester I & II exam inclusive of submission of practical assignments. 50 Credit syllabus with hands-on learning as well as experience. The coursework comprises of total four theory papers and two practical papers. The first semester of course will be classroom based whereas the second or last semester will include traineeship in various government and public schools/NGOs of Kolkata.

She is RCI licensed Clinical Psychologist. She did her M.Phil from Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi. She did her Ph.D. in Psychology from Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. She has had 10 National and 4 International Publications in her name. She has won various awards and recognition such as the prestigious “Leelabati Bholanath Award” for Best Oral Presentation in the 35th Annual Conference of Indian Psychiatric Society (Eastern Zonal Branch). Also, she has thrice been selected to receive a foreign travel grant from Indian Statistical Institute for presenting papers at International Conferences. She has attended 7 National and 4 International Conferences.

Dr. Gouranga Mitra, Assistant Professor

Dr. Mitra has 8 years of teaching experience and an overall 10 years of research experience. He did his Ph.D. in Applied Psychology and has had 2 National and 6 International Publications in his name. He has attended 3 National and 10 International Conferences.

Dr. Sudeshna Roy, Assistant Professor

Dr. Roy has 8 years of teaching experience and an overall 5 years of research experience. She did her Ph.D. in Applied Psychology and her research area was the Correlates of Dysfunctional Belief related to OCD. She has had 2 National Publications. Ms. Anwesha Bhattacharyya, Teaching Associate

Ms. Bhattacharyya has been teaching for more than four years now. She has an industry experience of five years along with three years of research experience on “Clinical Psychology: Child and Adolescent Psychopathology, Psychological Trauma, etc.” She did her MPhil in Clinical Psychology from Ranchi University where she had secured the first rank. Earlier, she had completed her M.Sc. in Applied Psychology from Calcutta University. To date, she has 21 National Publications to her name. She has attended 3 National Conferences.

Ms. Suvosree Bhattacharya, Faculty (Visiting)

Ms. Bhattacharya has 6 years of teaching experience and an industry experience of 2 years. She has research experience of 4 years on Anxiety Disorders and Child Psychology.
