Ph.D. in Pharmacy
A Master’s degree in any branch of Pharmacy, or relevant subjects with ≥ 55% marks or minimum ‘B’ grade in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) for the unreserved category of students and ≥ 50% marks or equivalent grade for reserved category students.

The School of Pharmacy is approved by the Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi and within a span of one year got accolades from the section of the society. The department has created a conducive environment for scholars, having full phased laboratory setup for research activities. Furthermore, our research facilities are appropriately equipped with sophisticated instruments to conduct cutting-edge drug discovery and development research.
The department is supported with project funds from the University and expected to receive many more from the external funding agencies which are the boon for the research scholars to work independently.
Applicants interested to join Ph.D program may adhere to the following,
Applications shall be invited through announcements by the University preferably twice in a year at the time of semester begins. The interested applicant/s may submit the application for the admission in Ph.D program in Pharmacy to the Registrar Office of the University. R&D committee shall get in touch with the Controller of Examination section to conduct the admission entrance test (written mode). In the entrance test, the 50% questions shall be set from the research methodology and the other 50% questions shall be set from different topics of Pharmacy. The qualified candidates shall be called for the personal interview. On the basis of the performance of the candidate in the interview, the candidate may be considered for enrollment in the PhD program in Pharmacy of the university.
At the end of every six months, candidate’s research progress shall be evaluated by the research advisory committee (RAC) created for each scholar. RAC shall suggest ways to improve the quality of research work of the scholar. RAC shall be made by considering five faculty members in which one expert must be from outside of TNU. The report of RAC shall be submitted to the R&D committee. The R&D committee shall keep the records and further shall forward the same to the Controller of Examinations (COE). The RAC shall be following the PhD guideline of TNU while functioning.

Research & Development (R&D): The pharmacy industry is one such industry that thrives on research and development. For this option, M.Pharm with Ph.D. in Pharmacy is highly in demand for research of new drugs, process development, formulation development, clinical trials and toxicological studies.
Analysis and Testing: Analysis and testing go hand in hand with the Pharma industry specially in order to maintain a proper Quality control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA). Production and Manufacturing: the options of working in production and manufacturing are huge. One can start his/ her own venture or work for someone. Professionals for production and manufacturing of drugs and pharmaceuticals, biotechnological products, surgical dressings, medical devices, equipment, traditional medicines, veterinary medicine, etc and are also the requirement for the production of cosmetics, soaps, toiletries and dental products.
Clinical Pharmacists in Corporate Hospitals: Although it might be a trend of the US or Canada, but it is one that seem to be setting in India as well. The pharmacists in the hospitals are the best informed individuals for prescribing a drug. Mostly in western countries, the diagnosis is made by the Doctors but the pharmacists decide the medicines and their dosage. Therefore, Pharmacy professional with PhD in Pharmacy degree have important role and can earn attractive remuneration and can occupy strategic positions.
Regulatory Bodies: There are bodies that control and regulate medicines. FDA is the regulatory body that deals with governing and implementing the rules and regulations for the Drug and Pharmaceutical industry. The post of Drug Inspector, Drug Analysts, Asst. Drug Controller, Deputy Drug Controller and Drug Controller of state and finally Drug Controller of India (D.C.I) is an option one can aspire for.
