B.Sc (Hons.) In Biotechnology 3 12th standard pass with science subjects, at least 60% marks.

TNU’s B.Sc in Biotechnology courses is designed to provide students with a strong fundamental idea and advanced study of cell and tissue culture, genetics, bio-medicinal and non-medicinal products, pharmaceuticals, bioprocesses, new technologies and engineering. The designed curriculum, laboratory facilities, research based teaching, projects, and opportunities to get trained in leading biotechnological firms will make students in this programme competent for both industrial sector and academia.

As the global population grows, scientists look to biotechnologists for solutions to various problems like adequate food, infant mortality and sustainable agriculture. Biotechnologists tap into the resources available now to improve the quality of life.

Healthcare Biotech is benefiting more than 350 million patients around the world through the use of biotech medicine to treat and prevent every day and chronic illnesses.

It is estimated that by 2020, 50% of all medicines will come from biotech!

Energy Biotech in the form of biofuel is helping to fight global warming as an alternative and safer form of global energy. It has led to significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions with the aim to reduce a 2.5 billion tons of C02 equivalent per year by 2030.

Agricultural Biotech offers new, improved and adapted agricultural crops to reduce poverty and can increase food security for a growing global population.

Environmental Biotech is to solve environmental problems like depletion of forests and water resources, resultant biodiversity loss; climate change-related crop pattern as well as disease pattern changes; waste/ effluent management issues in a sustainable way.

Marine Biotech is involved towards development of useful products and process from the marine resources, for aquaculture production and productivity increase

Bioinformatics deals with bio-IT services, which covers computational biology, computational chemistry, genetic sequencing etc. It is all about application of computer technology to gather, store, analyze and integrate biological and genetic information.

Dr. Amit Sarkar, Assistant Professor

Dr. Sarkar has 5 years of teaching experience and an overall research experience of 20 years. He did his Ph.D. in Microbiology and his research area was Molecular Genetics of Pathogenic Bacteria. He has 9 International Publications in his name. He has attended 2 International Conferences.

Dr. Prosun Tribedi, Assistant Professor

Dr. Tribedi has 8 years of teaching experience and an overall research experience of 9 years. He did his Ph.D. in Microbiology and his research area is Microbial Biofilm, Bioremediation, and Microbial Ecology. In 2015, he was awarded the Young Scientist Grant from DST, Govt. of India. He has 36 International Publications in his name. He has attended an International Conference.

Dr. Prashant Shukla, Assistant Professor

Dr. Shukla has 10 years of teaching and 5 years of research experience. He did his Ph.D. in Biotechnology and his research area is Plant Biotechnology and Microbiology. He has 21 International Publications in his name. He has been awarded DST Fast Track Project Award in 2013 and Chhattisgarh Young Scientist Award in 2007. He has attended 3 National and 1 International Conference.

Dr. Poulomi Chakraborty, Assistant Professor

Dr. Chakraborty has been teaching for more than a year now and has an overall research experience of three years in “Exploration of Natural and Synthetic Molecule for the Inhibition of Microbial Biofilm”. She did her Ph.D. in Biotechnology and has ten international publications to her name, to date. Apart from this, she has attended five national and three international seminars organized by various groups.

Dr. Diwakar Kr Singh, Assistant Professor

Dr. Singh has been teaching for about a year now and has an overall research experience of more than 6 years in “Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Immunology”. He did his M.Tech. and Ph.D. in Biotechnology. To date, he has 2 National and 9 International Publications to his name. Apart from this, 8 National Conferences and 6 International Conferences organized by various groups.

Dr. Mostaid Ahmed, Assistant Professor

Dr. Ahmed has 2 years of teaching experience. He did his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics and his research areas were Solid Mechanics, Theory of Elastic Waves, Geodynamics, and Mathematical Modeling. He has had 11 International Publications to his name and has attended 3 International Conferences as well.

Dr. Manashi Chakraborty, Assistant Professor

Dr. Chakraborty has 13 years of teaching experience and has an overall research experience of 11 years. Currently, she has been working on projects involving Dependence of Exchange Bias on Interparticle Interaction and Improving multiferroicity with RGO/GO/Graphene-based Nanocomposites.  She did her Ph.D. in Chemistry and her areas of research have been Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry, Coordination Chemistry, and Nanomaterials Synthesis, Characterization, and Magnetic Properties Study. She has a National and 5 International Publications in her name.

Dr. Abhijit Samanta, Assistant Professor

Dr. Samanta has 8 years of teaching and an overall research experience of 12 years. He did his Ph.D. in Applied Chemistry and his research areas included Rheology, Interfacial Tension, Fluid flow through Porous Media, Enhanced Oil Recovery (Chemical & Microbial), Bioenergy, and Microbial Growth Kinetics. He has been a Junior Research Fellow under CSIR, New Delhi at Department of Petroleum Engg., ISM Dhanbad, and Postdoctoral Research Associate at Department of Petroleum Engg., Texas A&M University. He has 10 International Publications in his name. He has attended 6 National and 6 International Conferences. 

Dr. Santanu Ray Chaudhuri, Assistant Professor

Dr. Chaudhuri has 19 years of teaching experience. He has done his Ph.D. in Economics where he specialized in Economic Inequality and Human Capital & Growth. He has 12 years of research experience in Economic Growth, Human Capital & Inequality, Labour Economics, and Environmental Economics as well as 2 years of industry experience. He has had various awards and accolades bestowed upon him like a State Funded Scholarship, selected as a team member in the Capacity Building Project organized by Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, Resource Person on ‘Macroeconomics and Public Policy’ at South State Gujarat University, Surat and Resource Person on ‘Illicit Fund Transfer’, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune. He has 7 National and 6 International Publications. He has attended 2 National Conferences.

Dr. Debobani Biswas, Assistant Professor

Dr. Biswas has been teaching for twenty years and has a collective research experience of eight years. She did her Ph.D. in English Literature and her research area was “African American Drama”. To date, she has had two international and 1 National Publication to her name. Apart from this, she has attended 5 International Conferences.

Mr. Ranojit Kumar Sarker, Teaching Associate

Mr. Sarker has 16 years of teaching experience. He is pursuing his Ph.D. in Bioinformatics with “Bioremediation of plastic material” being his area of research. Earlier, he completed his M.Sc. in Biotechnology. He has 5 International Publications to his name while he has attended 1 International and 4 National Conferences.

Dr. Rajashree Kar, Teaching Associate

Dr. Kar has 2 years of teaching and a year of industry experience. She did her Post-Graduation in Physiotherapy with a specialization in Orthopedics. She has attended 6 National Conferences organized by various groups.

Mr. Atin Das, Faculty

Mr. Das has an overall 25 years of experience in academics and industry. He did his M.Sc. in Hotel Management. He has experience working with many pioneer brands in the hospitality sector. A well-known face of Bangla television, associated with several cookery shows.

Mr. Sushmit Bhattacharya, Soft Skills Trainer, Training & Placement

Mr. Bhattacharya has 16 years of teaching and 2 years of industry experience. He is currently pursuing his MA in English. He has been recognized by the AIMA, New Delhi as an Accredited Management Teacher.

The Department of Biotechnology is one of the most thriving Departments in The Neotia University. This research-oriented unit has several well equipped research laboratories including an independent and dedicated research laboratory (Microbial Ecology research laboratory) that makes the Department a perfect place for practicing research with worthy objectives. The Department has received several research grants including an externally funded grant that lead to enrich the infrastructure of the Department substantially. The learned faculty members of the Department make sure that the students obtain an all-round knowledge in the context of basic and applied aspects of cutting edge research. They are always helped to develop special skills by individually performing an in-house mini research project as well as visiting various Biotechnology industries. In most cases, the students complete the degree having some publications from reputed international journals as well as a thorough experience in the industrial arena. The Biotechnology Department of The Neotia University offers the students the state-of-the-art facilities and immense scope for practicing quality research for developing a better future.

TNU has Membership with Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE). ABLE is a not-for- profit pan-India forum that represents the Indian Biotechnology Sector. ABLE has over 400 members from all across India representing all verticals of the sector like Agribiotech, Bio-pharma, Industrial biotech, Bioinformatics, Investment banks and Venture Capital firms, leading Research and Academic Institutes and Law Firms and Equipment Suppliers.
