The Coconut Plantation Program at The School of Agriculture and Allied Sciences- The Neotia University

The School of Agriculture and Allied Sciences, in collaboration with Non-Government Organisation BHOR and Mithrimitti, planted over 150 coconut saplings in an ambitious move to counter the effects of deforestation and climate change. The school launched a coconut planting program led by Dr. Sarita Pandey, Assistant Professor, School of Agriculture and Allied Sciences, to support the Green Kolkata Initiative of NGO BHOR and MITHRIMITTI. The tree planting event started at 11:00 am on Sunday, September, 18th 2022 at The Neotia University farm and was attended by Dr. Sushil Kumar Kothari, Dean of the School of Agriculture and Allied Sciences, Dr. Sarthak Bhattacharya, Dr. Agniswer Jha Chakraborty, Mr Abhishek Anand, students of the school and representatives of NGO whose support for this ambitious action was crucial. Dr. Kothari added that along with afforestation, this Coconut Plantation project will empower farmers with sustainable practices to better manage their farms and increase their yields. Eventually, this will boost livelihood opportunities and enhance the socio-economic conditions of the rural poor through the promotion of sustainable livelihoods. Dr. Kothari thanked all the guests and staff for their support for this noble cause. The event ended at 3:30 PM.
