The Neotia University and Neotia Institute of Technology Management and Science organized the Orientation Programme for the 2017-18 entrants.

Starting college/ university education can cause much anxiety in the hearts of new students and their parents because of all the unknowns. To alleviate this anxiety and give them an idea about what to expect during the next few years at this institution, The Neotia University (TNU), West Bengal and Neotia Institute of Technology Management and Science (NITMAS) organized the Orientation Programme on 25th and 26th July,2017 for the 2017-18 entrants .

The Orientation Programme started with a galaxy of people including Chief Guest Prof. Damodar Acharya, Former Chairman AICTE & Director IIT KGP; Guest of Honour: Srimat Swami Prananandaji Maharaj, President, Sri Ramkrishna Mission, Sarisha Ashram; Mr. Hari Ramasubramanian, Growth Market Unit Lead, IBM Systems University Business Development and Ecosystem; Prof. A S Kolaskar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, The Neotia University; Mr. Amitava Banerjee, Director, School Of Maritime Studies, Mr. Angshuman Chatterjee, Director, School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts, Prof.(Dr.)A.K Bose, Advisor, Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Sujoy Biswas, Acting Principal, Neotia Institute of Technology Management and Science, Mr. R.K. Verma Registrar NITMAS, Mr. Suhas Mukherjee Head HR; Mr. S. K. Mukherjee, Head Training and Placementand all the Faculty and Staff Members were present to interact with the students, their parents and wish them a successful stay at TNU and NITMAS.

The programme started with a short introduction and welcome address by Dr. Rajeev Verma, Registrar, TNU. Standing on the threshold of the propitious two-day Orientation Programme, he warmly welcomed all the dignitaries, faculty members, staff members, parents and students. He gave the message that this orientation programme provides a platform to our newcomers to get acquainted with the diverse, vibrant and inspirational learning environment in the campus.

Prof. A.S. Kolaskar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, The Neotia University, in his welcome address conveyed greetings from the Chancellor, Padmashri Shri. Harshavardhan Neotia and all the members of the Governing Board. He spoke largely about the University and how the university would impart holistic education that would transform students into leaders for the Global Society. He emphasized on strengthening the strength of the university. He stated that students must think innovatively and understand the global culture to emerge as successful professionals. Later on in the programme, he also spoke about the ragging free campus, CBCS, evaluation system and the National Digital Library facilities at TNU.

Prof. Damodar Acharya, former Chairman AICTE & Director IIT KGP graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He motivated the crowd by speaking about TEAMWORK. He informed the students that nowadays they have vast access to knowledge. They must work on projects relevant to human surrounding and eventually the culture of teamwork would develop in the campus. Prof. Damodar Acharya also emphasized the importance of communication skills. He advised the students to listen to news channels like CNN, BBC etc. He also shared valuable information regarding the fact that British Council is advocating BEC courses which helps the students immensely to develop their language skills.

Srimat Swami Prananandaji Maharaj, President, Sri Ramkrishna Mission, Sarisha Ashram ,started his inspirational speech, by chanting beautiful lines from the Vedic Literature. He gave the message of transformation of knowledge into education. He then emphasized the fact that, in order to be successful in one’s chosen sphere of life, it is important to have knowledge. Swamiji said only knowledge is not sufficient; it must be combined with “Shradha”—Faith in oneself.

Dr. Sujoy Biswas, Acting Principal, Neotia Institute of Technology Management and Science, addressed the gathering by stating that students should choose his or her course based on their interest, and not based on any external pressure from parents or peer groups. They must feel the joy of learning.

Mr. Hari Ramasubramanian, Growth Market Unit Lead, IBM Systems University Business Development and Ecosystem, spoke about the growth and development of technologies. Through his power point presentation he stated that in the current era the world is highly technology oriented.

Mr. Amitava Banerjee, Director, SOMS, gave a presentation which focused on the hard work, discipline and proper educational record that the students need to maintain from day one of their session in order to graduate, board the ship and achieve great heights of success.

Mr. Anshuman Chatterjee, Director SHCA, in his talk mentioned about the lucrative career prospects in the field of Hospitality. He informed the mass that TNU has signed MOU with HTMi, one of the leading hotel management institutes in the world. According to him, this is a major step taken by the university to prepare students effectively for a management career in the global hospitality industry.

The Second Day of the programme provided essential information that every student and parents of TNU will require to make their stay fruitful and useful. Prof. A.S. Kolaskar, explained the Evaluation System of TNU and pointed out how it is different compared to examination system followed by other universities.

On the Second day, Mr. S.K. Mukherjee, the training and placement head of both TNU and NITMAS, shared the past placement record of NITMAS and the list of companies who are recruiting our students in large numbers.

    6. Robotics Engineering by Dr. Ankush Ghosh
    7. Applied Psychology by Ms. Suvosree Bhattacharya
    8. Biotechnology by Dr. Amit Sarkar.
    9. English Language Courses by Ms. Koel Mitra
    10. Sports and Student Clubs (photography, music, etc.) by Mr.Neilesh Chakravarthy

The faculty and the staff members coordinated the orientation programme successfully. Students and parents found the program highly beneficial.
