The School of Maritime Studies of TNU & NITMAS organised a Seminar on Contemporary Maritime Developments.

The School of Maritime Studies of TNU and NITMAS under the stewardship of Director-SOMS organised a Seminar on Contemporary Maritime Developments on 4th April 2017 at the Seminar Hall of the University/ Institute of the Scholastic Building 2 in the Campus.

3 illustrious speakers, doyens in the Shipping Industry were invited to present their papers and address aspiring Deck and Engine Cadets of the University and Institute.

The Seminar commenced with an Opening address from Director- SOMS and the Ceremonial Lighting of the Lamp by the dignitaries.

The Substantive Session of the Seminar then followed, where Mr.Biplab Kumar Biswas,Chief Engineer and an ex- Chief Surveyor of the DGS spoke on Energy Conservation on Board Ships, Mr.GautamSen, ex- Director, Marine Department, Calcutta Port Trust spoke at length on COGES SYSTEM aboard Ships and
Mr.Kalyan S Bhattacharya, ex- President and CEO, Birla Power and President and CEO of ADU Academy spoke on the importance of e – learning using modern technology and learning and training modalities that aspiring Cadets should follow.

This was followed by Q&A session moderated by Director-SOMS which saw staff and aspiring Cadets participating actively.

The Speakers were then felicitated by the Cadets with Bouquets and Mementos.

The Cadets and Faculty present were engrossed and deeply appreciated the presentations which were rich in theoretical , academic and practical content.
