When The Neotia University (TNU) was established?

The Neotia University was established vide the West Bengal State Govt. Act XXIII of 2014. However, the first batch started in the year 2015.

What are the Govt. approvals The Neotia University have?

  • The Neotia University bill was passed in the West Bengal State Assembly under the West Bengal State Govt. University Act XXIII of 2014 (means – approved by the State Government).
  • The University is enlisted & recognised by the University Grant Commission (UGC), Govt. of India. One can check our enlisted University name in the UGC website (www.ugc.ac.in).
  • MRE & BNS courses are approved by D.G Shipping, Govt. of India and also ISO 9001-2015 Certified
  • BA- LLB & BBA-LLB courses are approved by “Bar Council of India”
  • Pharmacy Counbcil of India (PCI) approval for B.Pharm Courses

Does AmbujaNeotia Group having any previous experience in the field of education?

The AmbujaNeotia Group started its journey in education with Neotia Institute of Technology, Management & Science (NITMAS), previously known as Institute of Technology & Marine Engineering (ITME), a college established in 2002. Also we have a Management & a Nursing College in Kolkata.

What are the approvals NITMAS have and what are the courses offere there?

NITMAS is affiliated to Maulana Abulk Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) (Formerly WBUT) and approved by AICTE, Govt. of India. We offer two Engineering courses there – CSE & ECE

Instead of having a college (NITMAS), why it was required to establish an University (TNU)?

NITMAS is affiliated under MAKAUT (A State Govt. University) where the courses offered are very traditional and technology upgradation in the course curriculum is almost not there. So after studying these courses students are not able to cope up with the requirements of the industries. Teaching methodology & evaluation system is also very traditional. At TNU, we offer courses those are technologically upgraded as per requirement of the Industries and where there is shortage of manpower. We also use “Choice Based Credit System”(CBCS) teaching methodology and continuous evaluation of students through classroom evaluation, practical evaluation and project evaluation system.

Why do you say that course & teaching methodology offerd by TNU is better than other Institutes?

All the courses offered by The Neotia University (TNU) are highly in demand for job. There are shortage of trained and quality manpower in each of these sectors. TNU having academic collaboration with industries for almost all courses offered. As per, teaching methodology is concerned, TNU is aimed to attain holistic development of its students by ensuring that education provided are contemporary and experimental through partnership with industries and other academic institutes.

Your Institute location is very far and its very difficut to reach there

We have separate hostel facilities for boys and girls students inside the campus. 24 hrs. security, medical and other facilities there within campus. Secondly, students may choose to attend the University as day scholar also. We have 2 A.C buses flying from Esplanade & Ultadanga in Kolkata.

Your course fee is high - how do you justify?

The course of University decides & approved by the Fee Structure Committee of the State Govt. The fee structure may vary little bit depending on infrastructure, Faculty, quality of education and many other factors. So, the fee that have been decided are totally justified and actually less than many other similar kinds of institutes in West Bengal. However, we provide 25-100% scholarship on tuition fee, to the deserving students for whole academic years.

Your Hostel fee is relatively high - what do you say?

Our hostel rooms are totally furnished as required by students for study purpose. We provide quality food, 4 times a day. Students can access wifi facility in hostel also; plus, 24 hrs. security and medical facilities are there. However, we can arrange an accommodation outside campus also for the students with relatively low cost (3K –4K per month).

No batch have been passed out from TNU yet, how can you guarantee placement?

No one can guarantee a placement. TNU will provide best of the education to students. The student have to prepare themselves as per requirement of the the industries. We will invite a number of companies in various sectors for campusing. But, students have to clear the written exam and interview process for placement. As we have NITMAS College since 2002, we have vast experiences in training & placement of students. Our NITMAS have on an average of 80-85% placement records for last 11-12 years. TNU organises special industrial training for our students every year. TNU have signed MoU with various companies for almost every course we offer, for internship and placement of our students.

What are the companies have tie-ups with your University?

(i) PHI Robotics Pvt. Ltd. for Robotics Engineering (ii) Adani Power Ltd. for Electrical Engg. (iii) K. Shipping, Destan Ship Mgt. Pvt. Ltd. and Bluebird Shipping Mgt.Pvt.Ltd. for MRE & BNS (iv) Cactus Communication and Sage publication for English (v) HTMi, Switzerland for BHA courses. Many other companies are in pipeline for having tie-ups.

If a student is weak in English communication…how can he study Engineering?

We have a highly advanced language lab within the campus to help students to improve the communication skills as well as the gesture and posture and body language. This will help them for a better career apart from clearing campus interview.

How good is TNU library facility?

A large library on 8000 sq. ft. of area with a sitting capacity for 200 students and in housing a volume of 31000 books from 5022 titles and 71 National and International Journals allowing the students to access 87063 nos. of e-books and online journals. Students are also getting the facilities of e-learning through online Web and Video courses in Engineering, Sciences, Technology provided by National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), which is a joint initiative by seven IITs and IISc Bangalore. TNU is also a member of National Digital Library; so our students can access all kinds of study materials, books, journals & publications and can use them as & when required.

Why Marine Engineering & Nautical Science courses fee are so high?

Apart from normal theory & practical studies, students of Marine Engineering & Nautical Science have to go through various mandatory trainings like physical exercise, gym, self defense, swimming, games etc. Unlike other Engineering courses, these trainings are the part of their curriculum. So, all the students will have to stay in hostel as their training starts from early morning till they goes to bed at night. These students have separate hostel facility, so that they remain physically & mentally fit throughout. Their fee also includes ‘on-ship-training’ that is required for their placement. So, MRE/BNS course fee includes all these facilities too.

What are the career prospects available after studying MRE / BNS?

They can roam around the world as part of their profession. They can earn in US$ and the earnings are tax free. For, MRE professions, after having 8-10 years of work exeriences they may apply for shore jobs also in Ship building companies, Colleges & Universities, Iron & Steel Companies, Autimobile industries, star hotels & resorts or can work as consultant with the reputed companies.

Do you have sufficient expert faculty members?

Recruitment of expert faculty members is a continuous process. We have Ph.D holder faculty members in all Engineering courses. Our faculty members have numerous years of work experiences in their fields and have got excellent teaching experiences. So, our students get experts guidance in theory and practical sections both. We do have Ship Captains & Chief Engineer in our BNS & MRE departments as faculty member. We have most of the faculty members with foreign work experience in our Hospitality division. We do have Ph.D faculty members in our Agriculture, English and Applied Psychology departments too.

The Student is financially very week, how can he study at your University?

Students those are bright and intelligent but financially not sound, can get a scholarship from 25% to 100% on tuition fee for all the semesters. TNU has tie-ups with SBI and Syndicate bank for financial assistance(loan). If they can meet the documentation required by the bank, they shall get an education loan for their study purpose.

If a student does not have the 60% marks in PCM, can he/she take admission at TNU?

No. For Engineering, Maritime Studies, B.Pharm, Biotechnology courses, students must have 60% marks in PCM / PCB (as applicable). For B.Sc.(Hons.) Agriculture, 55% and for rest of the courses 50% marks are required. For, PG courses, criteria varies course to course.

If a student have passed from XYZ board, can he/she take admission at TNU?

The board name shall be cross verified from the information available online in Govt. websites. Or we may consult with TNU registrar or Honb’le VC about the validation of the Examination Board, before we take admission of the student.

TNU is not approved by AICTE, whether its Engineering degree will be valid?

As per Higher Education policy of Govt., any “University” in India required to be enlisted and recognised by University Grant Commission (UGC) for offering approved courses. AICTE approval required only for the “Colleges” those are affiliated under any University. For, example, Calcutta University, Jadavpur University… does not require AICTE approval for offering Engineering courses. So, Engineering degree provided by TNU will have 100% validity like the above mentioned Universities for all Govt., Public & Private jobs.

For Agricluture courses , does TNU have ICAR Approval?

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is not a Certified or Approval Body. They only standardise the Agriculture education in India. If any University those have UGC recognition, then with the approval of Academic Council and Governing Body of that University, they can start Agriculture Department and education. However, TNU is following all the measurements and standards of ICAR for Agriculture education. Agriculture passed out students from TNU will eligible for Govt. & Private jobs in India and also will be eligible for higher education (M.Sc / Ph.D) and jobs at ICAR.

What is Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)?

CBCS is a teaching methodology where students can choose 60% of their core subjects, 20% of their Elective subject, 20% outside their core & elective subject

Industrial Training & Internship

Every year students goes for Industrial training for around 3-4 weeks. Also in the 6th / 7th semester students are being sent for Internship to the collaborative and non-collaborative companies. Few examples, where our students already gone for internships are – Toyota, Adani Power, Siemens, Calcutta Pavlov, Emami, Hyundai, WABCO, Kuka Robotics, CRI, B & B, Exide, La Meridine, Haytt Ragency etc.

Bank Loan Facilities

TNU having tie-up with SBI & Syndicate Bank for student’s loan. However, students can apply for study loan to any bank. Necessary documents shell be provided from the University site. Rest of documents (like, Family income, ID proof etc.) will have to be provided by the student. The repayment of loan normally starts one year after completion of the course or six months after getting a job as per negotiations with the bank.

Anti-Ragging

TNU / NITMAS have Anti – Ragging cell with the representation from University & student’s site. Every student and guardian have to sign an Anti-ragging document while taking admission. However, State & Central Govt. also have very strict rules on this issue. So, our campus is totally ragging free.
