12th standard pass with Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Maths/ Agriculture Vocational with at least 55% marks.

Agriculture plays a vital role in India’s economy. 54.6% of the population is engaged in agriculture and allied activities (census 2011) and it contributes 17% to the country’s Gross Value Added (Current price 2014-15, 2011-12 series). India ranks second worldwide, in farm output. India is the largest producer of milk, jute and pulses, and has the world’s second largest cattle population with 170 million animals in 2011. It is the second-largest producer of rice, wheat, sugarcane, cotton and groundnuts as well as the second-largest fruit and vegetable producer, accounting for 10.9% and 8.6% of the world fruit and vegetable production, respectively according to Annual Report 2016-17, Govt. of India. 4-year B.Sc. in Agriculture programme consists of topics such as agricultural science, use of modern scientific equipment and techniques in agriculture, land surveying, soil science, water resource management, animal and poultry management, basics of biotechnology etc.

Prof. (Dr.) Sushil Kumar Kothari, Professor & Director

Prof. (Dr.) Kothari has 10 years of teaching experience and an overall 14 years of industry experience. He is a Postdoc on Plant Nutrition and has a total research experience of 35 years on the development of agro-technology of medicinal, aromatic and biofuel crops. He did his Ph.D in Agronomy and has 60 National and 27 International Publications. He has been awarded with the CSIR Merit Promotion and the DAAD Fellowship from Germany. He has attended 52 National and 11 International Conferences.

Dr. Bidisha Mondal, Assistant Professor

Dr. Mondal, a Gold Medalist from C.U, has 6 years of teaching and 3 years of industry experience. She has 10 years of research experience on Plant Genomics. Corporate Agriculture, Tissue Culture, Biodiversity and Biotechnology. She did her PhD in Agriculture and holds Post-Doctoral degrees in Fungal Barcoding and Plant Genomics. She has won the DBT-Bio-CARE Women Scientist Award from the GOI. She holds Senior Research Fellowship of ICAR-NATP, GOI. She has 17 National and 14 International Publications. She has attended 2 National and 3 International Conferences.

Dr. Biswapati Sinha, Assistant Professor

Dr. Sinha has 5 years of teaching and industry experience. He has 6 years of research experience in Natural Resource Management, Conservation Agriculture and Crop Husbandry. He did his PhD in Agronomy and has 3 National and 3 International Publications. He has attended 6 National and 1 International Conference.

Mr. Aminul Islam, Assistant Professor

Dr. Agniswar Jha Chakraborty, Assistant Professor

Dr. Shraddha Bhattacharjee, Assistant Professor

Dr. Bhattacharjee has 2 years of teaching and 6 years of research experience in the livelihood development of forest fringe area people, the perception of farmers on climate change and its effect on agriculture. She did her Ph.D in Agricultural Extension. She has 2 National and 3 International Publications.

Dr. Abhishek Ghosh, Assistant Professor

Dr. Ghosh has 6 years of research experience on the adoption & diffusion of innovation and nutrition-sensitive agriculture. He did his Ph.D in Agricultural Extension and has 4 International Publications. He has attended a National and an International Conference.

Dr. Pijush Das, Assistant Professor

Dr. Das has 2 years of teaching and 6 years of research experience in Residual Effects of Organic Manuring, Irrigation Management and Quality Seed Production. He was awarded with the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship, University Grants Commission. He did his PhD in Agronomy and has 2 National Publications on his name. Dr. Tanuj Kumar Mandal, Assistant Professor

Dr. Mandal has 2 years of teaching and 6 months of industry experience. He has a research experience of 3 years in Water management and Management of Saline Soil. He did his PhD in Agronomy and is currently involved in a project, under the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO), involving the Effect of nano nitrogen, nano zinc and nano copper on the growth and yield of maize. He has had 6 National and 10 International Publications on his name.

Dr. Sarthak Bhattacharya, Assistant Professor

Dr. Bhattacharya has 9 months of teaching experience. He has a research experience of 5 years involving Spices, Plantation, Medicinal and Aromatic Crops. He did his PhD on Spices and Plantation Crops and is currently involved in a project under The Neotia University which deals with the “Evaluation of recently developed high yielding vetiver (Chrysopogonzizanioides L.) varieties in salinity affected South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal”. He had been nominated as a Peer reviewer in the American Journal of Agriculture and Forestry (AJAF), Science publishing group, New York, USA (19th June 2019 - 19th June 2021). He has had 11 National Publications and has attended an International Conference. 

Dr. Prasun Karmakar, Assistant Professor

Dr. Karmakar has a year of teaching experience. He did his PhD in Agricultural Entomology and his research areas are Economic Entomology, Host Plant Resistance and Biological Control of insect pests of crops. He has won the Best Thesis Award by the Association for the Advancement in Plant Protection at BCKV. He has 5 National and 5 International Publications. He has attended 2 National Conferences.

Ms. Madhurima Banik, Teaching Associate

Ms. Banik has a teaching experience of 2 years. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D in Agricultural Chemistry and Soil Science were her research area is Soil Fertility and Irrigation water management. She has had 5 International Publications. She has attended a National and an International Conference.

Dr. Sruba Saha, Teaching Associate

Dr. Saha has 2 years of teaching and industry experience. She has 6 years of research experience in Genetics and Plant Breeding. She did her Ph.D on the same topic and is currently involved in a study on the collection of Sesame germplasm in saline environment of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. Ms. Shagufi Narula, Teaching Associate

Ms. Narula has 2 year of teaching experience. She did her M.Sc. in Horticulture and is involved in research in the same area. She has one National and an International Publication on her name.

Dr. Gunindra Nath Chattopadhyay, Visiting Professor

Dr. Chattopadhyay has 30 years of teaching and an industry experience of 7 years. Besides this, he has an overall research experience of 48 years in the areas of Soil Fertility Management, Waste Recycling and Soil & Water Quality Management in Aquaculture. He did his PhD in Soil Science. He received the Review of the Year Award from International Centre for Living Aquatic Resources Management, Philippines in 1984. Also, he was elected as Fellow of Institute of Chemists, India in 1988, as Fellow of Inland Fisheries Society of India in 1999 and as Fellow of West Bengal Academy of Science & Technology in 2014. He has 60 National Publications including books and book chapters while there are 28 International Publications on his name.

Dr. Swapan Kumar Mandal, Visiting Professor

Dr. Mandal has 32 years of teaching and 35 years of research experience in Pest Management and Biological Control. He did his PhD in Agricultural Entomology and has 61 National and 9 International Publications on his name.

Mr. Pritam Das, Teaching Assistant (Lab. Technician)

Mr. Das has a year of teaching and 2 years of research experience on Water Resource Management, Soil and Water Conservation, Integrated Water Resources Management, Open Channel Hydraulics, Drainage Engineering and Trend Analysis. He did his M.Tech in Soil and Water Engineering as well as Agricultural Engineering.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Graduates and post-graduates in agriculture have ample opportunities in teaching, research and transfer of technology areas in ICAR, State Agricultural Universities, State Departments of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and NGOs. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts an annual competitive examination for recruitment in the Indian Forest Services, for which one of the educational qualifications required is Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture. Successful candidates can apply in any government job that specifies graduation as the required qualification like civil services, defense services, banks etc. Moreover, there are large number of local, national and international private business organizations, manufacturers and NGOs where agriculture professionals can find employment. Therefore, B.Sc in Agriculture offers a wide scope particularly in India where half the workforce is living on agriculture. Some of the top companies are, Rallies India Ltd (TATA), Nuziveedu Seeds Ltd. Monsanto, National Agro Industries, Godrej Agrovet LTD, Ravi Hybrid Seeds Pvt Ltd.
