Library Amenities

We have a world class library with 8000 sq.ft of reading area, as well as niche corners for solo study. With a collection of nearly 31000 National & International Books, 3 million E-Books & Journals, we offer a high tech catalogue from which students can access a wide range of online books and journals. Study materials and books are issued from library without any extra cost.

Expert Librarians are available in person to help navigate our extensive collection of discipline specific literature, books, periodicals, project reports, online periodicals and question bank. Besides the central library, each department has their own fully equipped library as well.

Smart Classroom and  Seminar Rooms 

All departments of the University boasts of Smart Classroom facility, which makes learning more interesting and easy. Spacious and innovative designed classrooms and seminar room, with internet connectivity, interactive boards, projector screens and advanced communication facilities to host lectures, seminars, workshops, and conferences encourage experiential learning for the students.


A large size of 10000 sq.ft. of workshop with all latest machineries installed within. Students are trained on these machineries under the guidance and supervision of qualified & trained experts on various programmes offered by the University.

WIFI-Enabled Campus

The entire TNU campus is Wi-Fi enabled with 24x7 broadband connectivity. This helps students to easily access internet based information to complete their assignments and projects. The students can also stay connected to the outer social world, which makes their campus life greatly enjoyable and productive.

All departments have well equipped laboratories supervised by experienced faculty members & trained technicians to help the students in performing experiments. There is also a highly advanced language laboratory to help students to improve their communication skills as well as gesture, posture & body language. It has highly sophisticated audio-visual apparatus like projectors, headphones and stereo sound system to help students to improve their accent, syntax and phonetics.

Our infrastructure also includes state-of-the-art Computer Laboratories equipped with latest tools and advanced software, Applied Mechanics Laboratory, Seamanship Laboratory, Bridge Simulator and more.

For Maritime Studies, we are one of the few colleges in Eastern India that can boast of an in-house, high-tech Ship-in-Campus and advanced bridge simulation facility. This novel infrastructure facility, built in compliance with international standards house original ship equipment in order to give budding Marine Engineers and Captains a hands-on experience of what a naval career entails.

Ship-in-Campus of the institute is an in-house ship building which is in working condition consisting of a 4000 BHP Ship Engine along with complete set of machineries available on the ship like Generator, Oil-Water separator, Boiler, Fire Control Lab, etc. This is the only working Ship-in-Campus in Eastern India of its size and students are provided hands-on training on various machineries of it.

Bridge Simulator - The BNS Department of the Institute provides training to students on a high end latest Bridge Simulator to give feel and experience, while sailing the ship under various climate conditions in the sea.

Freefall Boat - Probably, this is the First Institute in India, which has a Free Fall Davit training facility for the students. 

Sports and physical activities play an integral part of the University curriculum. This ensures holistic development of the mind and body. The University has separate indoor halls for indoor games like table tennis, carom, snooker and chess etc.  Adequate facilities and courts are available for volley ball, badminton, basketball and two large playfields for Cricket and Football. Dedicated and qualified Coaches for Football, Basket Ball and Cricket have been appointed. We have conducted frequent sporting activities including participation in Inter College Basket Ball, Football, Cricket, Table Tennis, Volley Ball and Martial Arts Tournaments and Competitions. Over the past 5 years, our students have significant achievements, having won several team championships and individual laurels.

Gymnasium - Students who are into fitness and cardio- vascular and resistance training, they can head to our fully equipped gymnasium, to stretch their muscles.  The gymnasium has all the makings of a professional gym. Students will find a range of resistance machines and freeweights to suit their physical workout regimes.

Swimming Pool - A full size state-of the art Swimming Pool with a dedicated Trainer and Life Guard caters to Swimming as a passion or leisure and also for professional requirement for MRE and BNS Courses.

There are 4 nos. of hostels inside the boundary wall of campus, out of which 3 hostels are for boys accommodating approximately 1000 students and a separate hostel for girls accommodating approximately 350 students with dedicated canteen and common rooms in each hostel building with security guards and power backup 24x7.

There are 832 students on campus. 405 students are staying in hostel within the campus boundary out of which 122 are girls and 283 are boys.

Each hostel is supervised by an experienced warden as well as a faculty in charge to ensure the safety and well being of our students.

We also accommodate special requests based on allergies and dietary restrictions. For a bite to grab on the go, we even have a Tea Junction outlet on campus.

We have a 10000 sq. ft arena to host events like socio-cultural and technical activities, exhibitions, sports competitions, quiz contests, etc.

CLUB MARINE: This club was formed at the inception of the Marine and BNS courses and exists under School of Maritime Studies and OIC sports comprising BNS and Marine Cadets. The Club organizes various sports and cultural events within the BNS and Marine Engineering stream throughout the year like cricket, football, volleyball, table tennis, carom and chess events as well as cultural activities like art exhibition, face painting, poster exhibition, elocution, debates and essay writing are also organized by them. It conducts the National Maritime Day Program on 5th of April every year. The Cadets, in full uniform, organize March Past, as a token of respect and reverence to seamen who has lost their lives on duty.

TECH NICHE: The Technical Club has been formed since the inception of the Technology & Technical related courses. All through the year, the club conducts various activities like seminars, presentations and lectures pertaining to the Technology subject. Exhibitions on gadgetry, software engineering, robotics and gaming conditions are conducted by the Club. Guest lecturers & Industry Experts are also invited from external organizations to give speeches. The Club is significant for facilitating and conducting SANKALP, the Technical Fest of TNU/ NITMAS which is a high budget yearly affair, involving major sponsors and leading Engineering Colleges in West Bengal.

TURNING LENS: The photography club has been formed by budding photographers from all streams. The club participates in various photography competitions and also, on a regular basis hold displays and exhibitions of outstanding pieces of Photography throughout the year. Several photographs have been published in newspapers and magazines as well.The club is connected to Kolkata Turning Lens Peoples Society, and has student members from their as well.

AJANTRIK: The Cultural Club comprises student from all streams. The club forms the Cultural Committee of the University, and organizes several sport, culture and welfare activities throughout the year. Teaching poor children of adjoining villages and conducting Blood Donation Camps are among the major charitable and welfare activities performed by the club. The club also conducts various cultural activities, like Dance Competitions, Band Performances, Music Sessions, Debates, Elocution, Essay Writing, Jam Sessions, Recitations and supervises the celebration of memorable dayes like Republic day, Independence Day, Rabindra Jayanti, Bhasha Divas, Saraswati Puja, Janamashtami, Deepavali, Christmas, and Iftaar during Ramzan. IMPULSE, a high budget Annual Fest of TNU/NITMAS is organized by this club with support of the management and involvement of major sponsors and leading Colleges in Kolkata and West Bengal.

RHYTHMS: This Music and Drama Club organizes and facilitates Cultural Programmes at the Intra and Inter Collegiate levels. The club holds auditions for all drama, dance and music events which are performed/ participated in by the University at the Inter Collegiate Meets and Fests. The high point of the Club was in 2012 when IMPULSE Intercollegiate Fest was held on Campus & participating in IIT Spring Fest competing against 50 strong teams.

ECO SPHERE (NATURE CLUB): The Nature Club is proposed to be started very soon, with a motive of planting more trees, maintaining ecological balance in the campus, conserving natural flora and fauna, holding awareness campaigns and programmes related to eco-friendliness, hygiene, cleanliness and nature conservation within the Campus.

E CELL: The Entrepreneurship/ business Club encourages students to come up with business ideas and proposals, which are discussed in open forums,in presence of professionals and experts. Case studies and field assignments are also encouraged, through practical sessions and demonstrations. Entrepreneurs are the role models for today’s young India, this club collaborates with several industrial experts to make West Bengal a hub of Industrial activities.

For those students who live off campus, we provide a high quality, safe and secure air-conditioned coaches. Students will travel with a trained bus supervisor and driver.

More features of our transportation services:

- All buses are air-conditioned between the city and campus.

- The pick up and dispersal of students is ensured with the help of the bus supervisor.

- There are first aid boxes in all the buses between the city and campus.

- New transport routes can be formed on request and feasibility. 

The Transport Fee needs to be paid from the month a student starts availing TNU transport. At least 15 days of prior notice is essential to discontinue the usage of TNU transport.
