Electrical Engineering is a field of engineering that involves the study and application of electricity, electronics, and electro-magnetism. The course covers the entire aspect of electrical energy generation, storage and transmission, circuit analysis, electromagnetic machines and drive system, power system, control system, power electronics, utilization etc. Students will learn about the basic fundamentals to advanced technical concepts, tools and equipments like simple voltmeter to a top end analyser, to manufacturing software with real-world applications.

Renewable Engineering (solar and wind energy) and Power System has evolved over the years and it includes courses related to power, control, instrumentation, electrical machines, etc. along with courses on various aspects of electrical energy generation, storage and transmission.

The programme incorporates considerable components of science and many branches of engineering. The course at TNU adds unique dimension as it gives sufficient stress on various aspects of energy engineering such as energy efficiency, energy services, facility management, plant engineering and non-conventional energy technologies. Thus this course of engineering has all components of conventional electrical engineering programme along with the components which today's energy sector requires.

Dr. Ashoke Kumar Basu, Associate Professor

Dr. Basu has 17 years of teaching experience and has an industrial experience of 20 years. He has a research experience of 13 years on the Optimization of Power Systems. He did his PhD in Electrical Engineering. He has 5 National and 10 International Publications to his name.

TNU has partnered with Adani Power Ltd., Ahmedabad, Gujarat to help develop and deliver the course curriculum and laboratory facilities. Adani Power Ltd. at its discretion will hire the students of TNU who meet the company’s recruiting criteria. Adani Power Limited is one of the largest mining group in the world. By 2020, the group will add 17 more ships to its current fleet, generate 20,000 MW of power, increase annual cargo handling capacity to 200 MMT, extractive capacity is scheduled to increase to 200 MMT per annum, making great opportunities for the students to increase their employability.

Modern syllabus has been developed, along with industry experts, students getting B.Tech/M.Tech in Electrical Engineering/ Energy Engineering will have the benefit of immense job potential in upcoming power generation, transmission, and distribution companies. Graduates of the programme can choose to work as commissioning engineers, distribution engineers, maintenance engineers, substation managers, quality assurance/quality control managers, wind farm designers, solar energy systems engineers, project managers, supervisors and innumerable other speciality engineers in the power industry. Students will also have opportunities to work in hydel or thermal power plants and in atomic power plants undertaking job roles like designing and developing efficient electrical machines, equipment control for electricity generation, construction and installation, testing and support documentation, electrical energy transmission and distribution.
